The Annual Shunpike* Shoppe fundraiser in September is a Society tradition since the 1970's, including:

- Raffle of a hand-quilted patchwork quilt.

- Amish jams and jellies, chive blossom and hot pepper vinegar

- houseplants, perennials, spring and "naked lady" bulbs

- lavender sachets and catnip bags

- fall scarves and hats, child/adult/OSU fleece throws

- potholders and potholder towels

- white elephants

- Brooklyn area history presentation, including Brooklyn City schools

- Hand-quilting and two-harness loom weaving demos

- Museum tours

 

*Shunpike? What's that?? Ridge Road was called the “Shunpike” around the turn of the 20th Century. Pearl Road was a toll road and to avoid paying the fee, travelers used Memphis Avenue to reach Ridge Road, which was a wooden plank road without a toll.  They were shunning the pike, thus named “Shunpike.”

Flashback...Elvis appeared at Brooklyn High School on October 20, 1955—70 years ago! On October 20, 1998 Brooklyn High School was recognized with a plaque as a landmark for its contribution to rock by the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum.
